It's a bit of "everybody has a different story" and though I don't think anyone is lying, it's obvious not everyone is right.

Hm. I guess what it boils down to is regardless of whether there's a danger or not, it only makes sense for people to go out and purchase copies and support the series. Perhaps not 80 copies, but at least one.

On the bright side, those 80 copies will go to people who will hopefully be inspired to buy more volumes and the books of the participants, so it may not have been a complete loss in the grand scheme of things.

Hi Simon,The 'rumour' came directly from a lengthy...

Hi Simon,

The 'rumour' came directly from a lengthy conversation I shared with Mr. Stephen Jones at Fantasycon. It seems, though, that he would rather protect his pride than allow us to help him save the series.

I caught Gary McMahon's comment on Ramsey's site: hey, the only one who feels like a tit here is me - following Steve's chat I immediately (after Fantasycon that is) contacted Robinson publishers and purchased, at trade price, 80 (eighty) copies of Best New Horror and used them as a promo at a gathering of sf, fantasy and horror fans in Glasgow on Thursday, 9th October. Steve's little bit of scaremongering just cost me several hundred quid.
