ReaderCon 2009: the report

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Sorry, gang. Not much of a report to give. These things are tricky, and it's easier just to ignore them. But since some of you have been asking, I'll say that it was a very fun time, even if we got there late and left early. My cohorts and I met a lot of people for the first time and found virtually all of them to be top notch people. I'd go back in a heartbeat for the company alone.

We didn't do much panel watching at this one, but we did manage to catch on the art of the short story, and I found it very interesting. Much of it covered the same thing every panel on short fiction covers, but the panelists had some new and interesting things to add along the edges, and I find myself still thinking about what I heard. The other panels we saw are best left undiscussed.

I bought only two books while I was there — one by Michael Cisco, the other by Paul Tremblay — but I suspect both will end up being incredibly fascinating. I'm looking forward to them. I also picked up the latest issue of "Dead Reckonings" journal which contains a review of my first book, along with some fascinating articles.

There's already talk among us to return next year, but no promises yet, of course. Still, I'd list this visit as a complete success.
