Surfacings and Nominationings

The best kind of blog entries, the ones that really make a fellow excited and proud to be posting, are those about friends. It's just nice to point out others' work and/or success and perhaps drive attention his or her way that might not have been there before.

It's in that spirit I point out that my good friend and great author Richard Gavin has finally been cajoled into joining the internet. Some of you may have already seen him on various newsgroups, "mixing it up", as it were, but now you can get a dose of his news from his own website/blog, At Fear's Altar. He mentions my name in the inaugural posting, but what I've done is nothing close to what his prose deserves. If you, dear reader, are unfamiliar with his work ... well, you'll soon regret that, and I'd only suggest you make your way over immediately. And, of course, keep going over there to see what he has in store for the future.

Also a great joy to announce is the fact that my good friend and great writer Gary McMahon has been nominated in two catergories for this year's British Fantasy Award. I'm quite chuffed for him, to say the least. He's up for "Best Novella" and "Best Collection" and I have my fingers crossed for him on both counts. Gary's come a long way since I first met him those many years ago, and it absolutely thrills me to see him getting the kind of recognition the two of us only dreamed about back then. Great stuff!

Two amazing pieces of news from two amazing writers. God, sometimes I love my job.
